I am addicted to “Breaking Bad” — to the point where I can’t sleep on Sundays because I’m still thinking about that night’s episode. I am also a big fan of Bob Odenkirk, above, who brings comic relief to the drama as Walter White’s sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman.

Despite those things, I don’t need Odenkirk to star in a comedy spinoff of “Breaking Bad.” “Better Call Saul,” which would focus on Saul before he crossed paths with Walt and has a title rivaling that of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” is on track to become a series on AMC.

The network has viewers hooked (a record 6.4 million people tuned in Sunday) and it wants to give people their fix after Walt’s story ends. While “Breaking Bad” can be very funny, no one watches strictly for the humor. It’s unclear if “Saul” could, or should, manage “Breaking Bad’s” laughing/nail-biting brand of tonal whiplash.

When Walt stopped cooking his blue meth, his replacements manufactured an inferior product — one that wasn’t as pure, nor was it blue. I worry the same thing will happen with “Saul.” It might still deliver a high, but it won’t be the same.
